Have ran into a few folks in the last month or so who have greatly over simplified Robotic Industrial Process Automation (RIPA) by assuming the technology is the same principals as Robotic Process Automation (RPA). RPA is primarily based on rules based logic. RIPA combines control theory, dynamic physics modelling, optimization algorithms, and machine learning. The goal isn't the shiny tool that we use, its solving the problem to make control room operators lives easier. If their lives are easier they increase revenue and safety of operations.
